Science

At Our Lady’s, we believe that a high-quality Science education provides the foundations for understanding and making sense of the world in which we live. Science has changed all our lives and is vital to the world’s future and prosperity. We aim to equip our children with the scientific enquiry skills, scientific knowledge and an understanding of the uses of science, necessary for their education, their careers and beyond.

Children are naturally inquisitive and our progressive curriculum aims to promote this curiosity. We encourage children to be interested, ask questions, think, consider and reason scientifically through partner talk and opportunities for engaging investigations and exploration. We want children to recognise the power of rational explanation and wherever possible, encourage them to learn through observation and investigation. Through building up key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to understand how Science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes.

The staff at Our Lady’s aim to ensure that all children are exposed to high quality teaching and learning experiences, both inside the classroom, within our local area and beyond, including opportunities to engage in enrichment opportunities, such as: local area walks, visits out of school to Cotswold Farm Park and the Birmingham Think Tank, visitors into school such as The Animal Man and visiting Magnificat Secondary Schools to engage in Science workshops. Our curriculum ensures that children leave school with the scientific knowledge and enquiry skills needed for their future in order to live life to the full.
